Who Loves Raku? I Do!

May 27, 2009 urngarden.com

We just picked up some new Raku pottery pieces that we’re slowly adding to the site.

raku urns

Raku is a Japanese style and the name means “joy” and that’s exactly what you get when you take one look at these gorgeous vessels. One of the things that makes this style of pottery special, is that the firing process literally creates a trash to treasure effect.  It’s not uncommon for potters to remove the vessel from the kiln and then put it in a garbage can surrounded by bits of wire, wood, and other combustibles. After the flame is lit, that’s when the magic happens. The fire and smoke create the beauty.

Celtic urns are a popular choice for a memorial, and this one of a kind art piece uses copper glazes and features a hand-carved Celtic knot emblem on the urn.

The sad thing about these urns, is that the pictures don’t do them justice.  They are much more attractive than depicted here and if you see one you like, don’t hesitate, as several customers have called when they were ready to buy, only to discover that the urn had already sold. The good news is, we can make another one. Maybe not the exact urn you saw earlier, but close and maybe even better!

Heart Keepsake Urns

May 20, 2009 urngarden.com

Several clients have requested that we carry the metal heart keepsake urns.  We’ve just added them to our inventory and have several styles available.

The heart keepsake urns are designed to hold a small portion of ash, lock of hair or other small memento. The hearts load from the bottom and are secured with a threaded stopper.

This style is ideal for families or friends that want to create a small memorial that can easily be stored and is discreet. Many of our keepsake urns have matching adult urns.

Yes, We Sell Rocks

vintage dove postcard

Jessica wanted to create a memorial stone for a one of the dispatchers at the police station in Michigan.

We can do custom work but the logo she wanted to use was too small and multi-layered.

What else could we use? Police badge was out of the question, she wasn’t a cop. What about the town mascot? Turns out, it’s is a Beaver.

The answer was a resounding “No”.

How about a dove for the dispatcher? The messenger.

Client loved it!

“I just received the stone this morning and it looks great.  Thanks again for all of your help.”

Urn Garden Brush With Greatness

April 29, 2009 urngarden.com

Dear Internets,

I’ve met the most amazing individuals over the past two weeks.

First up:  Cindy, from Arizona, our latest member of the Widow’s Club. Her 51 year-old husband dropped from cardiac arrest. They were newly wed last August and just moved to Arizona. Cindy chose the Going Home urn.

Last week, I met the widow of this brilliant mind:

“In my lifetime, it’s hard not to look at the transistor, which was probably the single thing that caused most the technology industry to occur.”

Conrad Jutson, when asked what is the greatest invention that’s occurred in his lifetime, and of humanity.

He was on the design and development team of the best selling GE AM transistor radio, which led down this path:

And in the end? Salt of the Earth.

One of our clients called to thank us for the Egyptian urns she bought for her sister who loved all things Egyptian.  The family purchased four of the Bastet canopic jars and plans to divide and spread her ashes all over the world as she requested.
