Shooting Star Memorial Jewelry: Smile and Wave Goodbye

March 8, 2010 urngarden.com

Looking to the heavens at night, one cannot help gaze at the endless number of stars. It’s comforting and healing to feel that those stars are somehow a symbol or sign that a loved one is looking back or watching over us. Those stars are also a symbol of divine guidance. A five-pointed star represents the Star of Bethlehem, while a six-pointed star represents creation. Inspired by shooting stars, we’ve put together a collection of star themed urns and memorial ideas.

Because of this belief, shooting star memorial keepsakes are popular options for those looking to find a meaning behind a person’s death. Inspired by the mystical sight of a shooting star, mourners can select from star urn necklaces that are discreet enough to wear for any occasion, yet special enough to have on every day.

Another memorial keepsake along the lines of stars and shooting stars is garden stones. These all-weather stones can pretty enough to put indoors and sturdy enough to place in a garden outdoors. One possible verse that can come with this type of stone is “Perhaps the stars in the sky are loved ones letting us know they are near by guiding us through the night.”

Burl Wood Funeral Urns & Boxes for Ashes

March 3, 2010 urngarden.com

Burl is Hard to Handle, Easy on the Eyes

For families that prefer a funeral urn that is made from natural wood, there are many species to choose from. Most of these wood urns are box shaped and some styles can double as a memorial chest.

Several of the boxes are sized to fit the temporary container that you receive from the funeral home and you can gently place the box inside the urn without disturbing the ashes. Some of the chest style urns have locking lids for extra security.

Personalization is an option on many styles but may add a couple of days processing time on the order. So be mindful if you have a tight turnaround.

Burl wood is highly prized by artists because of its unique shapes and ring patterns. Burl wood is a type of fast growing, abnormal growth found on some trees that form due to environmental stress or damage, often caused by either a fungal or insect attack.

This type of wood is hard to work with and will challenge the most seasoned woodworkers skills, due to the twisted nature of the species, but the end result is unusual grain patterns and a high gloss finish; a work of art that’s preferred by clients who value the beauty of hand-crafted wood.

Many of the qualities of burl wood that we’ve described here could possibly be translated to a loved one’s personality, challenging yet a treasure.

Mahogany is the national tree of the Dominican Republic and Belize and appears on the national flag of Belize.

The name mahogany is used when referring to numerous varieties of darker hardwood.  Mahogany  generally has a straight grain with a reddish-brown color that darkens over time. When polished, the grain glows with a reddish sheen.

Natural beauty and warmth radiates from our carved Mahogany memorial urns.  Antique brass finial and feet add a touch of elegance to these handsome urns.
