Our Sand Blast Golf urn is sculpted by an award winning American designer.  The golf urn statue has been sculpted using the ancient lost wax method and then recreated in great detail using cold cast resin with bronze filler for the look and feel of solid bronze. The Golf sculpture is mounted on a solid maple wood urn and is also available in a dark walnut finish.

Every pet owner has a sad dog story. My dogs are elderly and we’re preparing for the end of the journey, as are a couple of our friends lately. Here’s a few tip from our board of directors.

  • When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
    Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
    Allow the experience of fresh air and wind in your face to
    Be pure ecstasy.
    When it’s in your best interest, practice obedience.
    Let others know when they’ve invaded your territory.
    Take naps.
    Stretch before rising.
    Run, romp and play daily.
    Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
    Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
    On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
    On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
    When you’re happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
    No matter how often you’re scolded, don’t buy into the guilt thing and pout;
    Run right back and make friends.
    Delight in the simple joy of taking a walk.
    Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
    Stop when you’ve had enough.
    Be loyal. Never pretend to be something you’re not.
    If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
    When someone is having a bad day, be silent.
    Sit close by and nuzzle them gently.

Why Wait for the Memorial? Celebrate Life!

August 15, 2010 urngarden.com

Jeff Sass wrote about his experience at a memorial tribute for a friend of the family.

It was a true celebration of a life, and an evening filled with much more laughter than tears.  There were probably 400 people in attendance, and a heavy presence of both law enforcement professionals and leather clad bikers, two seemingly disparate communities, yet my friend’s dad was clearly beloved by both.

To say it was inspirational would be a gross understatement.

I think I learned many things last night, but the one thing I want to try harder to focus on is to celebrate life now.  I want to celebrate my life and all that I have to be grateful for, and I want to celebrate the lives of my children and my family and all the people that I love.  I don’t want to wait for the memorial.

Jeff Sass is the proud dad of ZEO (Zach, 22, Ethan, 20 and Olivia, 18).  He is also a seasoned entertainment and technology exec and active social media enthusiast.  See more of Jeff’s writing at Dadomatic.

Memorial Idea – August Birth Flower, Gladiolus

August 8, 2010 urngarden.com

For our loved ones that were born in the month of August, a good starting place for planning a memorial theme is the August birth flower, the gladiolus.

august birth flower

Striking beauty, from the Latin word “gladius,” meaning sword. Glads symbolize strength and moral integrity.

If you don’t know the loved one’s favorite color, you could draw on the colors the Peridot gemstone.  Peridot is the August birthstone and is mainly green, with golden yellows and brown inclusions. The color of summer.

Ancient Egyptians called peridot “The Gem of the Sun” because it was supposedly too bright to be visible in the sunny Egyptian desert. Legend also suggests that peridot can glow at night and it’s now believed that Cleopatra´s emeralds were really fine, dark green peridots.

Just What the Doctor Ordered- Herbal Cocktails

August 6, 2010 urngarden.com

“It lifts my spirits and lowers my anxiety.”Jim Duke

We’re taking a tip from a senior botanist with this simple tip for a refreshing cocktail to beat the heat and cure all that ails you.

At the end of most days, 81-year-old botanist Jim Duke pours himself a cocktail. Hardly a Scotch on the rocks, this healthy concoction he’s dubbed Creme d’Mentia is a blend of herbs, steeped in diluted vodka, that are thought to boost relaxation, mood, memory, and overall brain health (see recipe below). “It lifts my spirits and lowers my anxiety,” says Duke.

Recipe: Jim Duke’s Creme D’Mentia

* Mix 1/2 pint of 80-proof vodka with 1/2 pint water.
* Add 1/4 fresh lemon, 4 T. rosemary leaves, 6 T. lemon balm leaves, 4 T. peppermint leaves, and 2 T. sage leaves.
* Add sugar to taste.
* Steep for 3 days. Enjoy!

Now, let’s break it down and grow some herbs in the garden pharmacy or window sill:

ROSEMARY:
memory enhancer
reduce joint pain

SAGE:
painkiller
potent breath freshener

LEMON BALM
Dispels anxiety; improves mood
