Seasons of Life: Autumn Urns for First Day of Fall

September 22, 2017 Kim Stacey

“…and all at once, summer collapsed into fall.” ~Oscar Wilde

 first day of autumn

Today is the first day of autumn. I chose to open this post with quote from Oscar Wilde because, for me, they capture the rather shocking transition of the seasons well. But I have other favorites too so–much like the falling leaves – this gallery of autumn urns will be sprinkled with quotations and literary passages about autumn.

Am I the only one who thinks the year has just flown by? I doubt it; you too might be feeling the same way right now; saying to yourself, “Where have the months gone?”

“Autumn seemed to arrive suddenly that year. The morning of the first September was crisp and golden as an apple.” ~J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

The Sunset Orange Cremation Urn, and its smaller counterparts, medium and keepsake urn, are sturdy metal cremation urns for sale here at Urn Garden. Each is luminous and ideal for human or pet use.

“Fall has always been my favorite season. The time when everything bursts with its last beauty, as if nature had been saving up all year for the grand finale.” ~Lauren DeStefano

Tree of Life Cremation Urns

The next three autumn urns in our collection are tree themed. The ancient tree of life theme is moving and mystical with roots spreading beneath the surface and expanding branches to symbolize the family tree.

The cherry wood box below is special because it’s hand crafted here in America and in addition to the adult size, it’s available in an oversized version that will accommodate two sets of ashes. Perfect for families that want to be together in the end.

The green tree of life urn is metal, but also available in blue and can be personalized with names and dates. Adult size, but there are keepsake versions available too.

“But when fall comes, kicking summer out on its treacherous ass as it always does one day sometime after the midpoint of September, it stays awhile like an old friend that you have missed. It settles in the way an old friend will settle into your favorite chair and take out his pipe and light it and then fill the afternoon with stories of places he has been and things he has done since last he saw you.” ~ Stephen King, ‘Salem’s Lot

This beautiful ash pendant is also in the tree of life theme. Crafted in stainless steel and abalone, it comes with the chain and can be filled from the top. Cremation jewelry holds just a trace amount of ashes.

Legends of the Fall Cremation Urn, and the smaller keepsake version, the Small Urn for Ashes Legends of The Fall Cremation Keepsake, are also classically styled cloisonné urns. Flaming orange and red leaves are featured on this urn that looks like glass but is actually metal.

“You expected to be sad in the fall. Part of you died each year when the leaves fell from the trees and their branches were bare against the wind and the cold, wintery light. But you knew there would always be the spring, as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person died for no reason.” ~Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast

I hope you enjoyed this look at Urn Garden’s autumn urns. Before I go, I’d like to share one last quotation about the season ahead. It’s from Albert Camus, who puts a more positive spin on autumn: “Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.”

Going Home

It’s becoming more common to hear of the family that decides to keep the ashes in the home. Often they have plans to inter the urn or scatter the ashes later. The cremation urn is not going to be hid away in the closet. These families want something beautiful that blends with their decor. The living area or bedroom is usually where the urn will be located.

One of our families has both her parents in a cloisonne style vase up high on a shelf. Tragically, she lost her son a couple of weeks ago and selected an exotic copper funeral urn that will be displayed on the mantle, with a piece of art from her son’s collection.

The son’s parents are Vietnam Vets who plan to be cremated and interred at Arlington. Due to the transitional nature of the rest of the family, it’s been difficult to determine a final resting place.

Cloisonne and blown glass urns are popular selections for families that want a discreet way to keep the urn close. The strength and beauty of cloisonne is an excellent choice.
