This ceramic urn is a rustic beauty with leaves and berries of the blackberry plant pressed into the clay to form natural impressions. The artist then applies a coat of crackle glaze and then finally fires the vessel using ancient Raku technique. This creates a unique, one of a kind work of art.
Raku pottery is an ancient Japanese firing process in which each piece of pottery is taken from the kiln red hot, the molten glaze silken and glowing. In this state the pottery is placed in a bed of straw or leaves in an air-tight container. The dry plant material bursts into flame and the chamber is sealed. The combination of red hot flame and smoke transform the glaze creating the unique, natural colors and textures of raku. Made in America by caring master crafts men and women.
